Valentino Siesto Connecticut 1971 – Robusto
The Connecticut 1971 Robusto is where the Valentino Siesto house style is easiest to read. Rolled at the family factory in Tamboril, in the Dominican Republic, it wears a shade-grown Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf over a Dominican Olor binder, with San Vicente and Criollo 98 ligero in the bunch. Five inches at ring 52 is the format the blend was built around: enough body to carry the filler, short enough to stay bright from light to nub.
It opens on honey and dry florals, then settles into cedar and milky coffee with a hazelnut edge that grows through the second half. Smoke output is generous for a cigar this gentle, the burn is straight and the ash holds. A morning cigar, or the one to hand somebody who has decided they do not like full-strength cigars.
