New World gordo cigars start at a 58 ring gauge and run to 60 and beyond — big, cool-smoking formats that take 75 to 90 minutes.

A wide ring gauge changes the arithmetic of a blend: far more filler behind a single wrapper leaf, a slower burn and a lower combustion temperature. The result is a smoke that feels rounder and less sharp than the same tobacco in a corona — which is exactly why Nicaraguan houses have made the size their own.
