Not every cigar needs an hour. A small-format cigar earns its place for the times when you have twenty minutes between meetings, a coffee on the terrace, or the last stretch of a walk home — and Primeros by Davidoff is the range built squarely for that moment.

Primeros are small handmade cigars sold in tins of six, using the same tobaccos and the same construction standards as Davidoff's larger formats. The point is not a cheaper cigar. The point is a shorter one that does not ask you to lower your expectations.

What makes a small cigar worth smoking

Short formats are unforgiving. There is less tobacco to hide behind, so a rough blend shows itself immediately, and a poorly rolled cigar burns unevenly within minutes. This is where the Davidoff construction matters more than the marketing does: an even burn and a clean draw are the difference between a satisfying twenty minutes and a wasted one.

The range runs from mild to full-bodied, which means choosing between the five blends is a question of what you want from the break rather than how experienced a smoker you are.

The five blends, compared

Primeros Dominican

The mildest of the family. Aged Dominican fillers under an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper give a creamy, gentle profile with cedar, soft earth and a touch of spice. This is the morning-coffee cigar, and the obvious starting point if you are new to the range.

Primeros Dominican Maduro

The same Dominican heart under a dark, aged Ecuadorian Maduro wrapper. It moves into medium-bodied territory, with dark chocolate, coffee and spice over a quiet sweetness. Choose it when you want maduro depth without the commitment of a robusto.

Primeros Nicaragua

Nicaraguan fillers wrapped in a smooth Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf — an intentional contrast between a robust filler and a mild-looking wrapper. Expect pepper, leather and earth, with cocoa underneath. Full-bodied, and the one that surprises people most.

Primeros Nicaragua Maduro

The darkest of the five. A Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan fillers, giving dark chocolate, roasted coffee and black pepper with an earthy base. If you already smoke full-bodied maduros in larger sizes, this is the short-format equivalent.

Primeros Escurio

The outlier, and the most interesting. Brazilian and Dominican tobaccos under a dark Ecuadorian Habano wrapper produce spicy pepper, leather and wood lifted by an unusual note of tropical sweetness. It is the blend that tastes least like anything else in the range.

How to choose

If you want a calm, unobtrusive smoke alongside coffee, start with the Dominican. If you want depth and darkness, go to either maduro — Dominican Maduro for chocolate and sweetness, Nicaragua Maduro for pepper and roast. If you want something with character that rewards attention over a short window, the Escurio is the one to reach for.

A practical note on storage: tins protect the cigars well in transit, but once opened they are not a substitute for a humidor. If you are not going to smoke through a tin within a week or two, move the remaining cigars into stable humidity like any other premium cigar.

The full range is available in our Davidoff collection, and sits alongside the rest of our New World cigars.
