New World torpedo and belicoso cigars taper to a point at the head, typically over 125 to 180 mm with a 50-plus ring gauge at the foot.

Cut a torpedo conservatively and you get a narrower opening than any parejo can give you, which concentrates the smoke and sharpens every flavour in the blend. It is the shape to reach for when you want a Nicaraguan blend to hit harder, or a Dominican one to show more detail.

Look for the Piramides Grande and J Series Piramides from Despot, the Davidoff Winston Churchill Late Hour Belicoso, the Zino Nicaragua Short Torpedo and torpedos from Perdomo and Plasencia.

The Havana equivalent is the piramides — see Cuban piramides cigars. For shapes worked at both ends, see New World figurados, or go straight-sided with a toro.
