Rocky Patel Fifty-Five – Corona

New World corona cigars sit at roughly 135 to 154 mm with a 40 to 47 ring gauge — the traditional proportions, made outside Cuba, in about 45 minutes.

The corona has become the connoisseur's size in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic: less common on the shelf than the toro, and far less forgiving to blend. What you gain is definition. Flavours arrive sharper and the transitions between thirds are easier to follow than in a 60 ring gauge.

Look for the Corona Grande and J Series Corona from Despot, the Davidoff Grand Cru No. 2 and Escurio Corona Gorda, and the Plasencia Cosecha 151 San Diego.
