The Cuban petit robusto is a thick ring gauge in a short body — up to about 118 mm with a 48 to 56 ring — and delivers a full robusto's character in 25 to 35 minutes.
Havana introduced the format to answer a real problem: smokers who wanted the depth of a robusto without an hour to give it. The wide ring gauge keeps the draw generous and the smoke cool, while the short length means the blend gets to the point quickly. It has become one of the most practical sizes in the modern catalogue.
Examples include the Cohiba Medio Siglo, Siglo de Oro and Maduro 5 Magicos, La Flor de Cano Casanova, Vegueros Centrogordos and the Trinidad and Bolívar short formats.
Add length and you are into Cuban robustos; keep the length and lose the girth and you are into Cuban half coronas. See also the New World petit robustos.
