The Cuban Churchill is the Julieta No. 2 vitola — 178 mm by a 47 ring gauge — and its close relatives: 75 to 90 minutes of Havana at its most ceremonial.
Named after the man who smoked them by the box, the Churchill is long enough that the blend genuinely evolves. The first third is usually restrained, the middle opens out, and the last third carries the strength. It needs time and a still evening; rushed, it turns hot and loses everything that makes the size worth choosing.
Havana Churchills include the Cohiba Esplendidos, Romeo y Julieta Churchills, Quai d'Orsay Imperiales, Diplomáticos Legendarios and Ramón Allones releases in the same format.
Longer again: Cuban double coronas. Thicker at a similar length: Cuban toros. Or see the New World Churchills for the Nicaraguan and Dominican reading of the shape.
